Rose-Breasted Grosbeak

(Previously Unknown #12) I think this is a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak...
Spotted 6/19/12 in Hilton Head, SC.

  1. HI Beth,
I'm no pro birder, but could this be a rose breasted grosbeak? The beak doesn't look quite large enough, but the coloring is sure familiar. We usually get one or two of those passing through our hollow every year, late April.

Your birding blog is awesome by the way! As i mentioned once before, John has tons of bird pics, but not all are from this year. One year (2007) we had a huge influx of indigo buntings! That's one for the books!

    Love you!

    1. That was one of the possibilities I was thinking about... The pattern on the head didn't look quite right though - I can't tell if the red goes up over the back of its head, or if that's just a trick of lighting... But that was the bird I was leaning towards. Thanks for the input!

Wow - an influx of indigo buntings! Lucky you! Next to the painted bunting we saw in Hilton Head, the indigo bunting I saw in college was definitely one of my favorite sightings... I'm hoping to get another one this year!

I'm glad you're enjoying the blog! Thanks for reading it! :o) Love you too...

Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to comment - I love hearing from you. If you can help me out with identifying any of these mystery birds or correct any mistakes I've made in identifying the others, I would so appreciate it! Happy Birding!
